Dumaguete Got Me

Dumaguete City became our temporary abode while we were out exploring Siquijor and Apo Island for two days. So before going back to Cebu, we had a chance to explore Dumaguete and satiate ourselves with its epicurean gastronomy.

"Credits to the Manila guy for this photo - Dumaguete really got me!"

Something for the Vegetarian
I was thankful of the group because they always considered my vegetarian lifestyle. Though I didn't impose nor complain about which restaurant to go to, they always initiated the question if the restaurant offers vegetarian meal. Delighted by their thoughtfulness, it became convenient for me which food I'd be choosing.

"With Mexican and flamboyant feels"

Our last dinner in Dumaguete was a feast. If Casa Verde in Cebu is a sought-out dining experience, Gabby's Bistro is its counterpart here in Dumaguete. Located at the 2nd floor bldg in Rizal Boulevard, Gabby's is considered a fullhouse. During my past visits in Dumaguete, I never had a chance to dine-in in a mid-range to a classy restaurant. That night though was officially my first time to sit down and savor a well-prepared meal.

"Here is my tasty Shrimp and Vegetable Rice Bowl"

"I love this Shrimp Pasta too!"

My vegetable rice bowl with shrimp was more than a satisfying one and it was close to being heavenly. The serving was great up to the extent that I wasn't able to consume everything. (It was the Manila guy who volunteered to finish my meal.)

Chef Tobz's Carousel of Cakes
Our next stop after our heavy meal was in Chef Tobz. It was a dessert haven. We tried different kinds of cakes - Matcha, Blueberry, Maple and Chocolate. I don't really have a sweet tooth and I am not a fan of cakes but the sight of these colorful and mouth-watering dessert were simply irresistible. Refusing a taste of each of them was undeniably a sinful act.

"Fitting my tastebuds for Match Cake"

"Here is another one for the taking"

"Always a fan of Chocolate cakes"

As for me, I was so hooked up with the usual Chocolate cake and found myself salivating for the cheesecake. Though I was never a fan of Matcha, I took pleasures of adapting its taste. All in all, it was a carousel of cakes and the group, like kids, all took a fantastic, sugary ride.

At the Boulevard
When the night was getting close to 10, the group decided to have our own way. Some went back to the apartelle while I was left walking along side with the Manila guy. There was a thin air of hesitation to whether talk or to remain silent. Intruding our silence was difficult and my mind was going gaga whilst randomly choosing a safe topic. Our previous conversation went from Geo-informatics to Humanity. Seldom that we talked about how wonderful it was spending time with each other. Then out of nowhere, I asked, "What makes you happy?"

"In a moment, I felt the breeze hugging me.
Its gentle caress was so soothing that I didn't want it to leave.
But again, I couldn't stop it...
It blew and left me cold and hanging again."

He suddenly paused and looked at me. But I was unable to read his thoughts. Life a girl on her 20's, I panicked if I had stepped on a booby trap. But he simply answered, "Everything makes me happy."
"Do you have time to feel irritated?"
"Yes."
"I never really saw you irritated,"I innocently told him.
"There were moments but I didn't linger with it. The world is too beautiful to feel that way."
"I see. Do you know I like this feeling?" I diverted.
"Which one?"
"I love looking at people happy. It exactly reflects my own," I trailed off the last three words.
"Happiness is subjective. I am glad you are feeling it right now," he said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Thank you for tagging me along with this trip. I mean it."
"Welcome, Gel. I am glad you tagged along," one of the sweetest thing I had heard from him before came another silence until we reached the food stall at the end of the Boulevard.

The Dumaguete episode with the Manila guy was something meaningful to me. To rephrase, my travel experience is always meaningful whenever I am with him.
