The Commitment I Vowed in Ormoc

As I read in Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, the third level of wanting is "committing". This is how I want to start my journey in Ormoc City.
"Anilao River witnessed my stay here in Ormoc"

I remembered 13 years ago that I committed myself to a 5-year relationship. The long term commitment chose to end in heartbreak though. Several years had passed, I experienced another heartbreak when my 3-year relationship ended marrying another woman from Ormoc City.

The daunting reality struck me once and for all. I will never go back to the city where all memories connect me to despair and heartbreak. But again, I am committed to people who influenced my life. The good people who considered me as part of their family. The people who were living in Ormoc City.

The Invitation
The early weekend of May greeted me with a downpour. I was between going or not going. The long time invitation will finally take place. I was ambivalent. Should I go despite the past I left behind in Ormoc or should I forget the camaraderie I shared with these people who once treated me as part of the family?

My feet did the talking though. They convinced my mind to affirm with the decision I had earlier. So at 6 in the morning, I had a quick pack of my belongings and grabbing anything I saw in my closet. I was a bit in a hurry since the next sea trip would be two (2) hours away.

The rain hadn't stopped yet. Was it testing my will or was nature naturally unkind to me? Hoping against all hopes, I hurried downstairs and put on my sneakers and jacket and I was good to go!

Doo-Doo in the Fan
I couldn't let opportunity slipped at that time. The way I handled situations in the past were useful for my decision-making at that moment. I maybe not that intuitive but I got all the facts gathered as quickly as I could. I then formulated my travel plan and itinerary. I was on my way to collect my ticket in an agency whilst visualizing my two-day excursion in Ormoc City.

Mind-setting would play a primary role on my stay. I conditioned myself to be positive all the time since the chances of meeting my ex-boyfriend's family would be inevitable. I wasn't feeling guilty myself but I was being considerate of his wife and all its possibilities.

The Progressive City
Circa 2006 where I first visited Ormoc City. Its port wasn't that big yet. There were a few vehicles and the pineapple vendors were visible the moment the ship would have its final maneuver. The fast-paced transition of modernization was easily felt.

I was overwhelmed by its development. It has been years since I was back. The crisp air hugged me and the humid atmosphere welcomed me. The hotel fronting the harbor was a clear manifestation that I was in Ormoc City. It was a short time to reminisce the past.

Until reality presented an array of events and places waiting for me to discover. I had a prior plan to visit Lake Danao or even do a day trek to Alto Peak. My mind was programmed to wander to these places for the next day to come.

Then I heard the honking of a motorbike. I realized that I was already drifting when I saw my friend just in front of me. I was then led to a birthday party. I saw familiar faces. Faces that were already part of my memory. I found my home in Ormoc City. I found a family that accepted me not because I was their counsin's former girlfriend but they accepted me as me.

Ormoc at Night
What was truly magnificent in Ormoc was when I had the chance to wander alone. The glowing dancing light at their town plaza was an outdoor rendezvous for family and friends. The art exhibit was a commendable movement to recognize contemporary local artists. Ormoc transformed into a buzzing city by night. My nocturnal hormones were kept alive by its festive mood. It was a simple night but a memorable one.

I didn't regret my one-time decision. With a relaxed mind and heart, I readied myself for the next day while contemplating my experience for the day and my would-be activities for the next.

How to Get There and Away:
1. Cebu to Ormoc Trip are accessible thru two fast crafts, Supercat and Oceanjet. They have trips every 2 and a half hour. There are also shipping lines that will take you for 5-6 hours. Fastcraft tickets are sold around 450 pesos only.
2. Ormoc City is a hub for different destination in Leyte. The bus terminal is almost at its 24 hour operation to different places - Maasin, Baybay, Tacloban and Biliran.
3. Hotels, and inns are mushrooming around the city. Do ask around. People are happy to guide you.
4. There are still no traffic lights in Ormoc City but I couldn't feel the need yet.
5. Food stalls are available anywhere. There is a food market near the bus terminal. Cafes are also an "in".
6. Wandering around the city by night is safe to say, at least. Traffic police are anywhere. Security is good in Ormoc City.

Keep posted for Lintaon Peak and my long motorbike ride.
