On Anj Random for People Advocate

"Gel, I have an idea. We can make a podcast together," he opened the topic one random day in a very random situation.
I was washing the dishes while he was helping me out with the water dipper.
"Are you ready to accept my bloopers?" that was my instant reply before confirming.
"You can choose a topic and you can be one of my guests..." he said.
The idea was conceived by it was just a mere idea. Nothing follows after the conception.

Nonetheless, I did not wait to be invited in his podcast instead I continued what I started. It was 2017 when I had the idea to film random people whom I met during my travel escapades. For those who have been reading my travel articles since 2013, I used to travel solo here in the Philippines and even abroad. So, it isn't new to me to be talking to different people especially to the locals. An inkling in my part that I wanted to record out conversation but I was hesitant because I think the most genuine conversation was the one's unrecorded...something random.

But things changed now, with powerful media platforms and with this pandemic, most people opted to be online while sharing their skills, talents. ideas, and everything under the sun. Everything is on social media.

I might be very late and lazy to be on bandwagon with these influencers but I am one hoping that my thoughts could be shared with the rest of the world.

On People Advocate
I was in a cafe with my bestfriend when I told her that I wanted to do a "people advocate" video/talk show. I thought she wasn't listening to me since her attention was on her "Kiko Machine" book. But when she heard her name that I wanted her to be part of my video, she raised her eyebrows and replied, "Am I not doing enough education with my job?" (She just had an interview with CNN, and other local television channels so it is quite normal for her to be talking with the U.S. Ambassador, lawyers, politicians, other government personnel.)

I refuted, "Would it be nicer if you can share to others what you are doing? Besides, you can educate more if you can be my guest."

That was the end of the conversation while we switched with a different topic.

Anj Random with a Business Woman
Because I couldn't have my bestfriend this week as my guest (she was invited for a radio casting today), I happened to randomly interview a 27-year-old business woman who is earning a 6-digit number.

We are living together in a hub and one morning, I asked her if I could ask her about how she became successful in her field. With a cup of coffee on hand and basically not too prepared, I prepared some questions for her which she could answer on-the-spot.

A 7-minute interview wasn't too bad and I believe that it was successful in my part.

An Emcee turned to A Talk Show Host
Admittedly, it has been my dream to become a talk show host but of course, I have limitations and hesitations. But with my experience as an emcee for more than 2 decades pushed me further so that very first random talk was something that I am proud of.

What I noticed in my video:
1. Build connection.
I watched the video again and I noticed that we lack the connection. As a host, you need to build rapport and connection with the guest. Glancing for sometime at the camera and to the guest would be much better.

2. Measure the length of the talk.
If the interaction is already there, the host my know when to ask questions and when to cut the guest's answers. It may sound rude but a talk show must be a two-way interaction between the host and the guest while building a wider audience. Long answers from the guest will bore the audience and it will drag the talk show longer.

3. Improve as you go on.
I have learned to never be afraid to commit mistakes especially if it was the first few times. So even if had some errors (pronunciation or grammar), I will try my best to be better at hosting.

4. Feel great. Look beautiful.
This is one thing I should always remember. When I feel great, I would look beautiful. On my first few minutes with my talk, I was a little hesitant but as I go along with the interview, I felt great having this first step for my people advocate show.

Well, here is my first youtube video on people advocate under Anj Random. Please leave me a comment and subscribe. It will boost my confidence to go on.

  1. Good idea and good move on your part, Miss Angel. I am sure you have a lot of knowledge to impart. I've learned it is also one good way to communicate to people who do not like to read.

  4. Nothing beats personal conversations and connections. It's more spontaneous and the message is much more clearer. Creativity and innovation shouldn't stop. Good luck!
