Much Needed Break on a Weekend

"The body is a temple that should be taken with reverence," I have read about this Bible quote some years ago in a certain novel. So, every time I think about my body, I am always lead back to this quote. You can read through my blog how I dedicate my service to the community and to my students but then I realized that I also need to dedicate something for myself.

Emotional Flexibility

When I handled different age groups during my session, I also encountered a variety of emotional dilemmas from the participants. Once, a participant verbalized that he needed help and he wanted to know how to cope up with his stresses. It was on my part to assess his stress level and give provide proper referral if needed.

Then I introspected, have I given something for myself? Is someone or something filling up my cup or have I drained myself dry? After a series of session, I halted and stopped. It is time to take care of "me".  As if the universe heard me, a week after, I was invited by the British Cambridge College to participate in their Resilience Workshop for Healthcare Providers. At that moment, I saw myself as someone who was vulnerable. Although it was an online workshop. I dropped a tear or so - it moved me tremendously. It filled up a dessert in me. At that moment, it was my oasis.

On SophistiKated Beauty

Since I was all contented with my Mental Status and I knew I could handle myself during tough situations, I had allocated a weekend to do something I used to do when I was on my 20's. I had my nail service and facial treatment. I tried pampering myself that one weekend. A was able to pay-off myself a 15-minute sleep at the spa. Not to mention a home massage by my favorite masseuse. Honestly, it was one of the greatest thing I need so far this year.

Life Is Sauna

I should say that I have given myself the ample time to relax and to take a break. From the Stress Level Survey, I am moderately experiencing secondary traumatic stress. In other words, my stresses are not from my own but coming from the community, and from other people. I tend to absorb their problems and their worries; thus, I was advised to slow down, and to manage my emotions.

With that, I took a break from people and finally convinced myself to treat and pamper myself at least once in a week. So, I found myself in a sauna while sweating out toxins from my body, rejuvenating my feelings, and just enjoy the peace and quiet of the place. Indeed, it was a miracle get away for me.

Onwards..On words...

I looked back at my strengths, values, and character when I overcame old obstacles. I wrote down and visualized myself as someone who isn't guilty to take a break and treat herself. After, I felt confident again and alive. Onwards, I will be doing more self-care, and on words, I will do this with conviction.

  1. I am glad that you are finding time to care for yourself. Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, improve energy.

  2. I agree, self care is a must! As trained healthcare providers and as empaths, we tend to absorb the worries and stress of others. I myself had been subjected to this. I just realised that I needed to give myself a good break and relax. IT is for my own good and for a sane mind. When I arrived here in the UK, I realised that work-life balance is a MUST. We need to take care of our selves before taking care of others and we need to protect ourselves FIRST before protecting others. IT is not being selfish, but, on the contrary, will contribute to a finer way of handling stress and being able to function well. So yeah, KUDOS to you for taking the initiative to step back and care for yourself.

  4. Nowadays with our new normal, taking that much needed weekend is a must. We need to be mindful of our physical, mental, social, and spiritual wellness. We need to take control of our whole being.

  5. I am happy that you had a wonderful weekend and treated yourself! Sometimes we forget treating ourselves because we are busy. Once in a while I date myself as well and just have a nice time with my own solitude.

  6. We all deserve to take a break. I often spend time outside our house watch the green lushes of grass and trees. If we can have a chance to go swimming that would be great.

  7. It’s always nice to be able to escape and take a break once in a while. As long as you can clear your mind to be able to get back into the grind, then it’ll be good in the long run :)
