The Vegan Restaurant I Miss the Most in GenSan

I have been vegetarian since 2018 so by the time I transferred in General Santos City, my diet mainly consisted of either tuna or malasugi (swordfish). Well, GenSan is known for its tuna but there was one thing that I was hooked-up to - Elpi's Vegan Restaurant.

It was noontime when I asked my student that I wanted to try a different cuisine aside from what I usually bought from a nearby "carenderia". Since she lives in GenSan, she brought her classmates and me in a well-known vegan restaurant in General Santos City. Behold! My eyes twinkled to hear such sweet word.

My first try in Elpi's was a vegan adobo with brown rice. Its authenticity, tastefulness, and creativity are among the words I could describe about his food. From then on, I kept on going back to Elpi's once or twice a month or even more. To add, I even celebrated my birthday there.

Here are some of my favorites:

"Elpi's Vegan Adobo with Brown Rice"

"Tastes like real Spareribs! But this is purely Vegan!"

"Vegan Spaghetti!"

"Another Vegan Food"

"One of my inspiration of my Vegan Burger!"

"Famous Bibimbap in Vegan Style"
"Super Delicious Moringa Cake!"

"My All-Time Favorite: Vegan Ramen!"

Unfortunately, I was not able to taste all of Elpi's menu especially his Vellychon. Just this year, on the peak of pandemic, I heard a sad news. His restaurant closed down and he moved out in General Santos City. It made me sad because I built great memories with vegan foods in his restaurant. Later on, I learned that he continued his advocacy in Manila serving vegan foods in Bec and Geri's Restaurant.

  1. Ohh! This is so interesting. I tried Vegan food once during this pandemic and I really want to try different vegan dishes here in Cebu. I will include this if I given a chance to visit GenSan soon.

    1. There are quite a number of vegan food here in Cebu already, Aldrin and they are also tasty and presentable. Lunhaw, and Planet Vegis are my favorites! Unfortunately, Elpi's Vegan Restaurant in GenSan already closed down because of the pandemic. The chef-owner transferred in Manila to continue his advocacy.

    1. Oh! I think you can give it a try, Reck! Eating vegan food, at least once, is a great experience. Who knows, you might turn vegetarian after eating one or two vegan dishes.

  4. I find it very ironic for me to learn that GenSan offers or has vegan restaurant. Being born there, and grew up there, my only recollection of eating is tuna, and seafood, as well as meat (because GenSan has lots of barbecue places; most particularly the one in Tiongson Street), and more seafood. I am happy that people are becoming more adventurous in the kind of food being offered. But I miss the paksiw na bulinaw wrapped in banana leaf.

    1. Sir Philip! I miss them too! I love roaming around in Tiongson Street while hopping from one food kiosk to the next! There was a time when I ate from store after another just in one night. hahaha! I love everything in Tiongson and it was also my first time to eat sizzling fish "dick". Haha! But this Elpi's Vegan Restaurant is located in Santol St. - a block from the oval. I also discovered a new one near SM. How I miss Gensan and all its food!
