Introducing my Start-Up Business: Quarantea Milktea

"When the world gives you lemons, make a lemonade!" Indeed, the lockdown taught me a lot of things and one of that is to never rely to a single income. Since I was laid-off last March, and away from my family and friends, I could not seem to contain my anxiety. What would happen to me in the coming days? I may have savings but with this pandemic how long would it last.

Breaking Point
Undeniably, I was in the point of breaking on the day the lockdown was implemented. The very good thing was I remembered a close former colleague who happened to live in Danao City. I was very happy that her family accepted me, and opened up the idea of starting small-scale business.

I was never business-minded but the idea seemed interesting and profitable. So, my colleague and I became business partners and eventually began selling streetfood (kwek-kwek, tempura, and fishball). It was so much fun!

Stepping up in Business
A month after we started, I shared her the idea of starting up a milktea business. She was hesitant for a while because she was never a fan of milktea.

The story goes like this: 'Upon ordering from a local milktea shop, I was not quite impressed by my order that, as a kind customer, I messaged the shop owner about my opinion. There was a line that struck me. She said that the taste is truly what they prepared for. Well, I didn't argue but I never ordered from the store again.'

So, I added milktea and even, milkshake in our store.

On being Vegetarian
Since I am vegetarian, I thought of adding something healthy. I contacted a friend who bakes and asked her if she could make a charcoal burger bun and even asked her to make mini-colored burgers. She willingly did so and viola! We are now serving Charcoal Burger eith Vegan Patty (I do the the vegan patty from the scratch) and Mini-Colored Burgers.

Physical Store
On our 5th month, we finally opened our physical store. Although I have a project to take as an NGO, I am glad to open a humble shop. My business partner really did so well. Her family is such a blessing for me.

Being Legit
As I mentioned in my previous blog, we managed to have our business registered under DTI and BIR. With this, we are happy that finally our business is legal and therefore, comes with responsibility and great service to our customers.

P.S.: As of now, I am opening another business. My Exam English Interactive, a baby IELTS Tutorial, is currently run by a colleague and me. I, being the Executive Director, am very excited. It will be in full swing in 2021.

  1. Congratulations, Anj! When you are selling something you love, it won't feel like selling at all. You have my well-wishes and support even if I'm not really a fan of milktea. Hehehe. <3

  3. I also wanted to start my business and make it legit. That's one of my plans before the pandemic shadowed us all here. I am a freelancer, and my blog and my writing works are my primary source of income. I hope you can share us how much did you spend to register a business. I already have a DTI registration. My challenge now is with my permits and BIR.
