Up-Close with Our Fine-Feathered Friends

Olango Island is the home of migratory birds here in the Philippines. With over a hundred species of birds coming from different countries, one will be mesmerize if he/she has the chance to see them up close. For all the years I had visited and lived in Olango Island, my recent escapade was the most-rewarding when it comes to bird watching. I saw them personally in a flock!

It was early morning when I started biking togethwr with Kate, my former student, towaeds Olango Island Bird Sanctuary. The almost 3-kilometer distance took us 2 hours to reach since that was Kate's first time.

"Fun at the sanctuary with Kate"

The school day made the road quiter. There were less kids playing along the road and less teenagers biking. The island was a perfect getaway for a peace and serene life. Just as what Kate and I needed.

"Been in the sanctuary for a couple of times but this is my first jump shot."

We finally reached the bird sanctuary in its low tide. I never minded the time. I allowed my thoughts to drift along with the current. The relaxing sea breeze calmed me down. I felt as one with the world and with the sea. It was so good to be subdued by nature. And everything that followed was a personal encounter with these fine-feathered friends - two hours before high tide.

Here are some photos during my encounter with these fine-feathered friends:

"Is this a tattler or a sandpiper?"

"Can you see them in a flock?"
