Witnessing a Malay Muslim Wedding and My 5-Hour Servicing Job

There were things I kept for several years because I was still uncertain whether or not the society I am living in will accept me. Exactly five years ago, I went out of the country to explore different places. It was my first time to travel abroad and I had enough budget to finance my travel; however, I chose to experience something more than staying in a luxury hotel and grabbing some expensive tours.

It was exactly five years ago, when I volunteered to become a waitress in a 5-star hotel to relieve a friend from her duty. I could still remember that I was catching my breathe during dinner because I was allergic to the food I ate. Good thing that a colleague was ready with an anti-histamine that I was able to survive a 5-hour food servicing job.

My mom asked me why I was wearing that bow tie and white long sleeve back then when she saw my photo. I didn't tell her the real story but now, I realized that I was lucky. I was even luckier to share this experience with my clas - on Humanities, particularly. I witnessed a Malaysian Muslim Wedding and it was something I could confidently tell because I was there.
