Leona's Cakes and Pastries: My Sugar-Fixing Moment

There were times when I need to be alone to think of crucial matters. Like last Friday, December 9, 2016, I was looking for a place to go and be with myself. I was caught in a certain dilemma, I wasn't sad. But it was that time when I had to make decisions not for myself but also for the good of the academe. It was an unprecedented and unplanned moment. Maybe this is what they call, "Adulthood" which I am still adjusting until now. And that was the time when I was looking for something sweet; at least, some glucose and endorphins to activate some happy hormones and to enable me to think clearly.

I was craving for something sweet and easy to the palate. Nothing in particular but just something sweet. So I logged out from the school at lunch and thinking of going to a newly-opened coffee shop nearby. Unfortunately, it was close so without much of an option, I headed to Leona's Cakes and Pastries.

The sight of sinfully delicious desserts already excited me. The wide-array of cakes and pastries were all so tempting.

Anyway, having read a few reviews on Leona's guava cake, I purposely ordered it and would give it a try. I don't eat guava. Though the fruit releases a fragrant sweet smell, I somewhat envisioned it as having a bitter and poignant taste. But it was a different experience with Leona's Guava Cake. I took a little portion from the slice and had it in my mouth. To my surprise, the guava cake tasted heavenly. (I was twitter-patted by its taste! Honest!)
"Yummy Guava Cake!"
Satiating my sugar-fixated palate, I ordered another cake, the Mango Mambo. It is a layer chiffon, pudding topped with mango slices. Definitely, the saying, "the whole is greater than the sum of all its parts," applies here. If you only took a portion of it one by one, there is nothing so significant about the cake, But, taken as a whole, it'll make you think about the Cuban lively dance! It drives you to Mambo El Todo!
"Am I not to drool for this?"
Matcha Smoothie is bitterly sweet. I must admit that I am not a matcha lover. Match is an acquired taste form me, but Leona's changed my perception. Sipping once...twice...thrice and more until I realized that I was more than halfway of the glass. Delicious matcha, I should say!
"Is this not a perfect pair?"
To conclude my dessert escapade, I ordered another smoothie - Frozen Choco. The sweetness and the cold chocolate, melted my heart. It was just the right amount of choco without traces of sugar crystals. The balance of bitter and sweet taste of chocolate in the smoothie is fair. Indeed, I was frozen admiring its taste.
"Satisfying desserts"
As for my decision, I spared a day for it and postponed it until Monday. There are just things that adults must do when making worthy and wise decisions - think everything over, siting the pro's and con's, listening to individual instinct, and seek advice from those who are experienced. Whatever decision one has, it must be fair and reasonable.

Well, temporarily shutting down doesn't mean giving up. As they say, "stressed is just desserts spelled backwards." The best way to conquer it? "Taste its bitter-sweet flavor as a whole."

Leona's Cake and Pastries have fair slice serving starting with P52.00. Smoothies at P85.00. Accommodating staff as well. However, during that time, there were smoothies which were unavailable. So, be ready for an option.
