People head to the beach to cool down. Some others head to the mountain to test their will power. What about people who venture the underground? What purpose do they have to see the natural tunnels in a dark and the mighty abyss?
With such curiosity in mind, I ebbed away from my own unreasonable fears of being claustrophobic and nyctophobic (fear of darkness). I was not the person I am today. I had hidden fears in me and even had terrible problem with my self-esteem. Since I started to wander and travel, I discovered something in my self - a strong woman is hiding in me.

Now it has been a year since I experienced spelunking or caving. The underground wonder helped me face the phobia I had had. Basically, the daring side of me at the present is the result of too many struggles, misadventures and mistakes I committed for the past years. With all these emotional outburst, I just want to introduce people to one of the best spelunking sites in Cebu Province.
Somewhere in Pinamungajan, Toledo City is an unexplored wonder. When I visited Kamangon Cave four years ago, I was gaping with awe. It was truly a nature's artwork. Stalactites and stalagmites were diamonds in the underground. I could say it has one of the liveliest underground chamber I had explored. To some, the cave might be insignificant but for me, its a charm that continues to linger in my memory.
Kamangon Cave is named after the way a caver has to do to access the pothole. One has to literally crawl to see the entire cavern. But, there is more than crawling in the entrance of the cave. In some areas, technical climbing is considered. Nonetheless, the sparkling stalactites and stalagmites are pure jewel in this underground tunnel that are worth one's effort.
Seeing the different formation of these rocks plays a vital role in my imagination. There were cascades of waterfall, a stalactite hanging elegantly like a chandelier and a stalagmite that looked like a rooster.
Other than the breath-taking limestone formation, Kamangon Cave also houses some creatures that are cave-dwellers and nocturnal. I could remember that during my caving adventure, the guide showed me newly-cracked eggs of a snake, and along our way we saw big spiders, centipedes and bats. I was scared but what could I do. I asked for it and I enjoyed it.
At the end of the tunnel, I was inspired to explore some more magnificent underground. I was happy beyond anything else because I somewhat de-synthesized myself of whatever fears I have and somewhat managed to survive in a cave. Of course, with precautions and safety in mind.
